You've heard me CRASH 12 over Walmart's $4 R/x program.
Buy Generic. Cheap beer is still beer.
Now, they've backed an employer mandate concerning health insurance.
Awesome.
Why?
Because Walmart sees a future in Doc-in-the-Box facilities and Boutique services.
A review:
Doc-in-the-Box: Minor Emergency Medical Center. Typically fast and easy, with a superbill presented for YOU to submit to the insurance company. Best for injuries not requiring major surgery, excellent for sprains, stitches, and the reassurance that you should RICE rule the injury.
Boutique Services: A small monthly or yearly fee to an MD for unfettered access to that MD. Bloody Genius. I got a stinger at the Seattle Quake's Magnitude Tourney. One call, a 20 minute walk, I was seen immediately, confirmed I was right, given an R/x and a stretching regimen, walked to Walgreen's (who does the $4 R/x thing too!), got the R/x and some other stuff (see!), went home. All told 2 hours, including an hour of Walking. (San Francisco, how could you not!)
Walmart knows you're cheap. Walmart knows you have R/x and Primary Care needs. Walmart also knows you need scotch tape, ankle tape, Gatorade, Ibuprofen, and that shitty $11.95 folding chair you keep leaving at the pitch.
Rugby Players should LOVE Walmart.
