Banned for Life? Health Insurance and Mental Nervous Disorders

Insurance companies don't like people who seek mental health services.

To get banned in Rugby, you have to punch a ref, or violate a red-card ban. IE, you must work hard at being an idiot to lose the ability to ruck.

To be unable to purchase Health Insurance in CA, all you need is a prescription for anti-depressants.

True story: Client, 25, F had an accident 6 years ago, and took anti-depressants for two weeks after the accident. She was declined for Health Insurance.

Yes, that sucks. It's wrong. But that's the law. She is eligible for the High Risk Pool, at $403 per month, but that is un-affordable.

Here's the solution:

1. Sign up for a health care boutique, maybe $150 for the year. This gives her access to an MD.
2. Find out how long she needs to be "crazy-free" to re-apply. Get temporary, renewable insurance to cover catastrophic incidents, maybe some hospitalization, <$100 month. (These plans do NOT cover organized sports injuries)
3. Get a 24h Accident Medical Coverage plan, to pay for accidents and injuries ($10,000, with a $250 deductible, $65/mo) either caused by props or buses.

Ergo, we can have her back in business, for under $200 a month.

Sucks. But that's the reality of the situation.
