Now, a possible "universal healthcare" package is looming. Some definitions:
Universal Healthcare: We already have it. Call for an ambulence and a pizza. Both will arrive, regardless if you have the money to pay for either.
Universal Health INSURANCE: Ah, there's the rub. 40+ million without, right? Bullshit. 1/3 are illegals, 1/3 don't want what's available, 1/3 legitimately can't afford/qualify.
So, the Feds/Demos might tear down the State by State barrier, allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines, and then mandate that everyone buys it. A mandate will cause three things:
- This will turn Health Insurance into Car Insurance, cheap, unless you get sick, then your rate increases.
- A shortage of Primary Care Physicians, since the reimbursements will be too low to run a business.
- Balance Billing, which is the providers way making up for the Insurance companies paying less that they require to run their business.
Solution? I like the federalizing of insurance law. Competition within plan types will be excellent for rates, and reimbursements.
The Mandate is dangerous. Car insurance is fucking pointless, just a piece of paper to cover you killing somebody. I fear health insurance will be all catastrophic, with nothing underneath. Further, we'll see billboards advertising $40/month "Family" plans that'll just dupe ignorant populous.
Ultimately, the Insurance companies will adapt to the new laws like NZ and the ELVs. Trust the ICs are not going anywhere.
