Remember the Scrumhalf who beat cancer?

[From Matt Eason, CapCityLaw.com]

Yes it is true. I’m going bald, but not the way of mid-life. I lost a “bet” if that is what you’d call it, and am making the small sacrifice.

Some of you may know that I coach a junior high school rugby team. Two years ago, a young man,Tino, joined the team. My first thought was that he may have been too small to play and should wait a year. Before I had a chance to speak to him or his parents, I read his medical release. Come to find out he was a rare survivor of stage 3 neurablastoma, which is one of the most deadly cancers. The doctors’ general sentiment was that if the cancer doesn’t kill him, the treatment will. He is now in complete remission, and is pound-for-pound the toughest kid on my team!!!

Last year, one of his teammates, Aiden, volunteered to shave his own head to raise money for cancer research. I was so impressed that a 12 year old would sacrifice his humility for a friend, that I made him a “bet.” If Aiden could score three “tries” (rugby equivalent of a touchdown) by this time this season, I’d shave mine. Aiden scored two in the first game, and the third the next weekend! Well no good deed goes unnoticed. There have now been multiple pre-teens on the team sign up to shave their heads in honor of Tino’s victory over cancer, and to help raise money for childhood cancer research.

I’d be honored if you’d consider donating some money to St. Baldricks on Tino’s behalf, and on behalf of all children out there who are hoping to beat cancer. You can follow the link for more information, and to donate. http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-58100#

Thanks,

Matt Eason
