Good News for Rugby Players birthing new players! A new law coming online 1.1.12, forces an employer to keep you on the group health insurance if you are disabled due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related complications, for up to 16 weeks.
The Feds had this same provision, in the Family Leave Act, but for only 12 weeks...
Positives include avoidance of potential COBRA, no gaps in coverage, and obviously, 4 more weeks of recuperation time.
Negatives include the potential of a employer dropping coverage entirely, as more and more rules are added. Think of it this way, if no insurance carrier can decline you, as it will be in 2012, why would an employer purchase health insurance for you? Cheaper to dump you onto the State...
Keep on making more Rugby Babies!
